Every evening before supper, the assembled group of clients, staff and volunteers join hands in a circle to share grace. Sometimes one of the clients will lead the prayer. A week after the shelter had moved from Temple Isaiah, I was surprised and moved when one of the children stepped up to lead, and recited the Hebrew bracha, which they’d learned by repetition the previous weeks. And I was further surprised when all the other kids joined in.
