One Winter Night is a volunteer effort to raise funds to expand and extend the program and services of the Winter Nights Family Shelter.
We are currently raising funds to:
Extent the family shelter’s season by 11% by adding 4 full weeks to this seasons schedule. The shelter opened in early September 2019 and will finish mid-June 2020. That is 40 weeks of shelter, food and services. Last year we funded an additional two weeks in June and now are committed to operate throughout the school year. Our Oasis day center with showers and services for shelter families and Parking Lot Program clients will also be extended by 4 weeks. Additional staff will be needed.
Sustain and expand services at our newly established Parking Lot Program for families, seniors and individuals living in their cars. After piloting the program of supervised, overnight parking for families two years ago, we operated for a full 16 weeks last year at an East County congregation. This year we will again fund a full 16 weeks and add staff to screen, supervise and deliver more client services.
Provide additional food and supplies to support the effort of an 8-week pilot program in East County where our client families will remain at one location for the full 8-weeks rather than our usual 2-week stay at one site. This involves recruiting and coordinating more than eight additional congregations to take co-hosting shifts at the shelter and we are going to supplement their generous donation of time and dinners by providing the food and supplies for breakfast and lunch.
One Winter Night is reaching out to businesses and individuals to share in expanding the program’s services in the upcoming year.
One Winter Night individual and business donors have generously contributed by
- Donating $1265 or more to underwrite one or more nights of services
- Donating a smaller amount to sponsor part of a night of safety and services for families
- Committing to monthly, recurring donations that they build into their business’s budget
- Committing to donate a specific amount when they complete the sale of a house (Realtors)
- Transferring appreciated stock at the end-of-year, avoiding taxes.
We invite you to join us.
We CAN make a difference in the lives of more children and families.
